Consumer concern about the safety of our food supply seems to be increasing on a daily basis. Americans watch in horror as some of the world's leading food companies have become entangled in a growing food-safety scandal traced back to milk ingredients from China. Concerns over imported ingredients surfaced again, when the Chinese government acknowledged widespread melamine contamination of infant formula for sale in China, resulting in four deaths and tens of thousands of very sick babies. It has become apparent that the problem included finished products containing milk-derived ingredients from China for sale in Asia and the South Pacific. Consumers are now asking questions about where companies buy the hundreds of ingredients in food products for sale in North America.

As well as concerns about food sources and problems arising from questionable ingredients, this past year has seen numerous recalls of food products due to bacterial contamination. Items such as ground beef, spinach, lettuce, frozen pizza, to name just a few, had to be pulled from the shelves and destroyed because they posed a serious public health risk. Recent outbreaks of salmonella in the food supply have brought the restaurant and foodservice industry into the news of late. Thousands of people have been sickened by consuming products that had been infected with dangerous bacteria such as e-coli and Listeria monocytogenes.

There are many ways that food can be contaminated with dangerous bacteria. Inadequate hygiene, cross-contamination, improper storage, and contamination of food by animal waste are some of the factors that can contribute to food borne illness. The common housefly is a particularly dangerous carrier of bacteria and other harmful micro-organisms. Flies can carry over 1 million bacteria on their legs and in their saliva. The pathogens that they carry can cause disease in animals and humans, such as cholera, dysentery, typhoid, hepatitis, and a host of food-borne diseases.

Flies are not only a nuisance pest but they are a carrier of disease and can harbor any one of over 100 different pathogenic organisms, including salmonella, staphylococcus and e-coli. Thankfully, some companies have begun offering fly control and fly extermination products to combat the problems associated with flies passing on illnesses and bacteria through food.

A fly can infect food merely by landing on it. The house fly and the horse fly are dangerous insects because they carry bacteria and disease from the most disgusting places onto food. They have the filthy habit of regurgitating food from their gut as they feed, and excreting faecal pellets onto food and onto food preparation surfaces. They are attracted by the odour of decaying organic matter where they breed and feed. An effective insect control system can drastically reduce the chance of food contamination by bacteria carrying houseflies. This is extremely important for restaurants, food manufacturers, livestock processors, grocery stores, and for anyone in the foodservices industry who is concerned about the health and safety of the products they sell.

While recent events have proven it is often difficult to know whether the food that we purchase is safe, consumers should know that the American food supply is the safest in the world. By reading product labels and practicing safe food handling techniques and proper sanitation, consumers can significantly decrease the chance of becoming sick from the food they eat.

I've always loved crafty people. The kind that could take a pile of rags and make the prettiest quilt you ever laid eyes on or could make candles in their kitchen that could pass for art. These people always amazed me. So when I was able to make something that had other people commenting on how neat my creation was, I was thrilled. True, my creation is one that is in most every home but not all are made by hand. My craft that I perfected was soap making.

Soap making, once learned, is not a hard thing to do and it leaves you with something that the whole family can benefit from. One of my favorite soaps to make is goat's milk soap but there are endless variations that you can try. Many people like to try soap making using glycerin as it is easier to find and can make some really pretty bars. If you get really creative you can add colors and fragrances to create soap as pretty as you would find in any sore. But you don't have to stop at just colors and fragrances. There are many additives you can add to your soap to be for function or beauty such as oatmeal, herbs or flowers. The list is endless. If you want to start soap making to make soaps for kids, you can make glycerin soaps with a toy hidden inside for the kids to find. Thinking outside the box is something that can also pertain to soap making.

One of the main things that you need to remember with soap making is safety. Many of the soaps that people make have an ingredient in them called Lye. Lye is something that has been around for centuries and is one of the oldest types of soaps known. This ingredient can be made by filling a hopper full of ashes and then pouring water through it and catching the water that comes out. Of course there are many types of Lye available online or in hardware stores making it easier than ever to make Lye soap. But do remember, even though Lye doesn't look all that scary, when you mix it with another ingredient it becomes extremely hot. When this reaction takes place you can become burned and if it splashes up in your eyes, it could cause blindness. So safety is something that doesn't take all that much time or money but can really pay off in the end.

Once you have mixed your ingredients and placed your liquid soap into the molds, patience will have to kick in. This soap will need to be allowed to dry for approximately three weeks before it is ready for daily use. Allowing the soap to "cure" is necessary to add time to the life of your bar. If you were to use the soap right away it would turn to mush in a short amount of time. I guess you could say that one of the necessary ingredients for soap making is patience as well. You need your lye or your glycerin, but it'll never happen without the patience.

Do you create goals that suit you?

Each week, I meet countless people who do not succeed in their lives and / or in their business. Many have no goals at all which ruins their lives. But for those who have set goals, make many mistakes to set goals that do not suit them in order achieve success.

Imagine that you have not set any goals at all. You think that things are going along as they should. This certainly applies to 95 percent of the private population, and without pressure from companies, managers and customers, most would not have any goals at work, either.

Imagine the Detroit Red Wings hockey team with no goals, sliding randomly on the ice, without knowing what was going on. The Red Wings would never have won the Stanley Cup with that attitude.

But for some reason so many of us think that our jobs and life will somehow work themselves out without clearly set goals. It is not the same balance and success, and we both know, deep down inside, though we do not want to admit it to ourselves and others.

Most go routinely through life until old age, when many get a wake-up call, realizing they never really took hold of their lives. Unfortunately, often we forget that life is not a trial race, rather it has to do with getting the most out of it with the little time we have on earth.

If you want to set goals, you need to understand that you and / or your employees may have different views on what the goal is. Below I show three categories that most of us belong to:

a. Those who need to set sky-high goals to be challenged b. Those who set goals that they know they can achieve c. Those who need to set goals that they always achieve

Find out which group you and / or your employees belong to, and set goals that corresponds to what that team needs as a challenge. A person who needs to set low goals and always achieve them, destroys himself if he sets too high goals, while one who loves challenges also needs to really feel that they achieve what others view as impossible.

As usual, the goal needs to include clear guidelines:

1. Set up fixed-term goals 2. Find out which of the above three categories you belong to (a, b or c) 3. Set a goal that corresponds to what you need to challenge (see question 2) 4. Write down the objective in the present tense, as if you have already achieved the goal 5. Create a plan of action 6. Perform Action 7. Follow up and correct until you achieved the goal

Regardless of whether you are setting goals or not, you are going somewhere. By setting goals, you can affect your trip and achieve what you want, instead of running around in circles, not knowing where you are going.

Although writing a business plan can be a lengthy, intimidating project, it is not necessarily difficult. Here is an overview of how to write a successful business plan.

What to Include in Your Business Plan
Your business plan needs to demonstrate that you have thoroughly considered all aspects of running your business. To that end, the standard business plan has nine major sections, covering everything from your business’s mission statement to a detailed financial analysis.

Executive Summary
The first – and most important – section of your business plan is the executive summary. This section is so important that it should literally be the first thing the reader sees – even before the table of contents! However, it should also be written last, as you’ll have a better understanding of the overall message of your business plan after you’ve researched and written the other sections.

One of the most important parts of the executive summary is the mission statement. The mission statement is only three or four sentences long, but it should pack the most punch out of everything else in your business plan: Those four sentences are responsible for not only defining your business, but also capturing the interest of your reader.

The rest of your executive summary should fill in the important details that the mission statement glosses over. For instance, your executive summary should include a short history of the business, including founder profiles and start date; a current snapshot, listing locations, numbers of employees, and products or services offered; and a summary of future plans and goals.

This section is a candidate for a bulleted format, which allows you to list main points in a manner that is easy to scan. Avoid using too much detail – remember, this section is a summary. A page or two is usually sufficient for an executive summary.

Market Analysis
The next section of your business plan focuses on market analysis. In order to show that your business has a reasonable chance for success, you will need to thoroughly research the industry and the market you intend to sell to. No bank or investor is going to back a doomed venture, so this section is sure to fall under especially close scrutiny if you are looking for financing.

Your market analysis should describe your industry, including the size, growth rate, and trends that could affect the industry. This section should also describe your target market – that is, the type or group of customers that your company intends to serve. The description of your target market should include detail such as:

• Distinguishing characteristics
• The needs your company or product line will meet
• What media and/or marketing methods you’ll use to reach them
• What percentage of your target market you expect to be able to wrest away from your competitors

In addition, your market analysis should include the results of any market tests you have done, and an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of your competitors.

Company Description
After your market analysis, your business plan will need to include a description of your company. This section should describe:

• The nature of your business
• The needs of the market
• How your business will meet these needs
• Your target market, including specific individuals and/or organizations
• The factors that set you apart from your competition and make you likely to succeed

Although some of these things overlap with the previous section, they are still necessary parts of your company description. Each section of your business plan should have the ability to stand on its own if need be. In other words, the company description should thoroughly describe your company, even if certain aspects are covered in other sections.

Organization and Management
Once you have described the nature and purpose of your company, you will need to explain your staff setup. This section should include:

• The division of labor – how company processes are divided among the staff
• The management hierarchy
• Profiles of the company’s owner(s), management personnel, and the Board of Directors
• Employee incentives, such as salary, benefits packages, and bonuses

This goal of this section is to demonstrate not only good organization within the company, but also the ability to create loyalty in your employees. Long-term employees minimize human resource costs and increase a business’s chances for success, so banks and investors will want to see that you have an effective system in place for maintaining your staff.

Marketing and Sales Management
The purpose of the marketing and sales section of your business plan is to outline your strategies for marketing your products or services. This section also plans for company growth by describing how the growth could take place.

The section should describe your company’s:
• Marketing methods
• Distributions methods
• Type of sales force
• Sales activities
• Growth strategies

Product or Services
Following the marketing section of your business plan, you will need a section focusing on the product or services your business offers. This is more than a simple description of your product or services, though. You will also need to include:

• The specific benefits your product or service offers customers
• The specific needs of the market, and how your product will meet them
• The advantages your product has over your competitors
• Any copyright, trade secret, or patent information pertaining to your product
• Where any new products or services are in the research and development process
• Current industry research that you could use in the development of products and services

Funding Request
Only once you have described your business from head to toe are you ready to detail your funding needs. This section should include everything a bank or investor needs in order to understand what type of funding you want:

• How much money you need now
• How much money you think you will need over the next five years
• How the money you borrow will be used
• How long you will need funding
• What type of funding you want (i.e. loans, investors, etc.)
• Any other terms you want the funding arrangement to include

Financials
The financials section in your business plan supports your request for outside funding. This section provides an analysis of your company’s prospective financial success. The section also details your company’s financial track record for the past three to five years, unless you are seeking financing for a startup business.

The financials section should include:
• Company income statements for prior years
• Balance sheets for prior years
• Cash flow statements for prior years
• Forecasted company income statements
• Forecasted balance sheets
• Forecasted cash flow statements
• Projections for the next five years – every month or quarter for the first year, with longer intervals for the remaining years
• Collateral you can use to secure a loan

The financials section is a great place to include visuals such as graphs, particularly if you predict a positive trend in your projected financials. A graph allows the reader to quickly take in this information, and may do a better job of encouraging a bank or investor to finance your business. However, be sure that the amount of financing you are requesting is in keeping with your projected financials – no matter how impressive your projections are, if you are asking for more money than is warranted, no bank or investor will give it to you.

Appendices
The appendix is the final section in your business plan. Essentially, this is where you put all of the information that doesn’t fit in the other eight sections, but that someone – particularly a bank or investor – might need to see.

For instance, the market analysis section of your business plan may list the results of market studies you have done as part of your market research. Rather than listing the details of the studies in that section, where they will appear cumbersome and detract from the flow of your business plan, you can provide this information in an appendix.

Other information that should be relegated to an appendix includes:
• Credit histories for both you and your business
• Letters of reference
• References that have bearing on your company and your product or service, such as magazines or books on the topic
• Company licenses and patents
• Copies of contracts, leases, and other legal documents
• Resumes of your top managers
• Names of business consultants, such as your accountant and attorney

Writing a Successful Business Plan
Despite the quantity of information contained in your business plan, it should be laid out in a format that is easy to read. Just like with any piece of business writing, it is important to craft your business plan with your intended audience in mind – and the bankers, investors, and other busy professionals who will read your business plan almost certainly won’t have time to read a tedious document with long-winded paragraphs and large blocks of text.

Business plans for startup companies and company expansions are typically between twenty to forty pages long, but formatting actually accounts for a lot of this length. A strong business plan uses bullet points throughout to break up long sections and highlight its main points. Visuals such as tables and charts are also used to quickly relay specific information, such as trends in sales and other financial information. These techniques ensure that the reader can skim the business plan quickly and efficiently.

Think of your audience as only having fifteen minutes to spend on each business plan that comes across their desks. In that fifteen minutes, you not only have to relay your most important points, but also convince the reader that your business venture merits a financial investment. Your best bet is a well-researched business plan, with an organized, easy-to-read format and clear, confident prose.

In my opinion there are three things necessary to get started playing golf properly. Beside a desire to learn, the first and most obvious of the three is you need golf equipment, secondly, you have to have some basic knowledge of how to swing a golf club and the basic rules of the game, and last but certainly not least is learning "Golf Etiquette". As you will note I will keep emphasizing the "Etiquette" part of golf and as you become a more experienced player you it will become clear to you why.

Since the first item I noted as a requirement to play was Equipment, some recommendations I would make to acquire equipment are as follows: Golf equipment can be very pricey so it is important to know the type of equipment that is right for you before you make any substantial investments. Golf Clubs can range from as little as $150 per set to as much as $2,000 or more for the new, most advanced Hi- Tech equipment.

My recommendation for someone starting out is to buy a used set of clubs, either at a golf store or garage sale, borrow a set from a relative or friend, or purchase a starter set form your local golf or sporting goods store ie; Dick's Sporting Goods, Golfsmith, Modells, Walmart, etc.. If you decide to purchase a new starter set or a used set of clubs you should ask to speak to the resident golf professional ( Dick's or Golfsmith would offer this service). He should be able to recommend equipment that will allow you to get started without spending an exhorbitant amount of money. It will also give you a chance to experience the game and determine whether it is right for you.

As much as I love golf there are people who have no interest or desire to play. In conversation with them I usually find that either they have tried it, found it too difficult and gave up, or they were into other hobbies such as fishing, boating and did not think golf was an athletic enough sport for them. I'm assuming that if you're reading this that you want to learn to play golf. One of the topics of a subsequent writing will be how to LEARN TO PLAY the right way. It you want to give yourself a fair chance to see if you really enjoy the game you have to learn properly. Golf is not as easy as it looks and since we can't all be Tiger Woods, us mere mortals have to work a little harder at it if we want to learn to play well. Forgive my digression, but I will do that from time to time to emphasize a point. The next writing will be about learning how to play, so back to equipment.

The beginning golfer does not need to carry 14 clubs ( the approved amount of clubs allowed to be carried under USGA - United States Golf Association rules). When I first started playing I had a golf bag I borrowed, A driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 5 iron, 7 iron, 9 iron, sand wedge and a putter and it was more than enough clubs to play. The different numbered clubs are used for different distances. For example, the Driver is the least lofted club, which means you can achieve the most distance utilizing this club.The subsequent clubs noted, 3 wood, 5 wood, 5, 7 & 9 irons and sand wedge all have increasing angles of loft respectively, so as the number increases on the club the resulting distance will decrease accordingly. Each number will progressively represents about a 10 to 20 yard variance depending on one's ability and if you are using a wood or an iron. As you begin to play you will learn more about when and why you use the different clubs but the important thing is to get started. Grab your clubs and get ready to learn to play"The Right Way".

• Learn about your students' surfing habits.
  Have students' complete MNet's Student Net Usage Survey form, at right, to assess where, how often, and for how long they go online. Then use their experiences as a springboard for classroom discussion. (We recommend visiting some of the more popular sites yourself.)
• Make sure that monitor screens are visible.
  Ensure that students' computers are arranged so that you can see all screens - usually in a horseshoe pattern around the walls of the classroom.
• Keep parents informed.
  Send home a letter to parents, letting them know that you'll be exploring Internet issues in the classroom. Some handouts can be discussed in class, and then sent home. Consider offering Internet workshops for interested parents.
• Familiarize yourself with your school board's Acceptable Use Policy for the Internet.
  Get to know the responsibilities of teachers, students and parents, as outlined in your board's acceptable use policy (AUP). If your board has not yet established an AUP, review MNet's Acceptable Use Policies section - or, as an example, the guidelines established by the Nova Scotia Ministry of Education or the Ottawa Carleton District School Board.
• Create a classroom online agreement.
  Using the suggested AUP guidelines and MNet's Family Online Agreements as guidelines, create a classroom agreement that indicates which types of sites students are allowed to visit, and which areas and activities are off-limits. Involve your students in this activity.
• Create a recommended list of resources for class and homework assignments.
  Bookmark safe, educational and relevant sites.
• Teach students never to give out personal information online.
  The most important online safety rule for kids is protecting their personal privacy. Your students should never give out their name, email address, street address, phone number or picture without a parent's or teacher's permission. Caution students about giving away too much information when filling out online registration forms.
• With older students, encourage an open dialogue on Internet conduct.
  Teens tend to be adventurous and curious, seeking out sites and activities that may not be appropriate for them. Keep the lines of communication open so you know what they're doing online - and so they'll feel comfortable coming to you if they get into trouble. • Report any online content or activity that you suspect is illegal.
  You or your students may encounter online situations that should be reported to your Internet Service Provider and/or the local police. These include online hate; harassment, cyberstalking or attempts to lure a child; dangerous activities such as bomb-making, terrorism or obtaining illegal weapons; child pornography; and physical threats.

Computer: More often than not, we do not switch off our monitors even after we have shut down our computers. Keep the monitor and the computer switched off when you are not using them. Start practicing this even when at work. You will help save some more power for the world.

Light bulbs: You must have seen compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs being advertised all the time. You must have even used them at times. As a power-saving measure, start using the CFL light bulbs as much as you can. If you are thinking they are more expensive than the regular bulbs, the benefits of the CFL bulbs will prove much more cost-effective in the long turn by the amount of power they will save.

Air Conditioner: Set the temperature at the minimum or maximum best you are comfortable with, depending on the season. Try not to set it at too high or too low temperatures. Setting the air conditioner at reasonable temperatures helps save a lot of energy.

Washing Machines: Do you use your washing machine as often as you want? Do you use your washing machine even when there are not enough clothes to wash? Minimize the number of washes by washing full load of clothes every time.

Television: Take off the power plug of your television set when not using it. This may not sound a big deal but this tiny step will help save power.

Geysers: Keep the geyser thermostat at the minimum heat. You do not need to heat the water at a very high temperature or for too long.

Refrigerator: Bring hot food to room temperatures before putting it into the refrigerator. You can also save power by taking cold or frozen food out of the refrigerator much before the mealtime, thereby saving power in heating it.

Car: For an air-conditioner equipped car, pull up the windows of your car before switching on the air-conditioner.

Blogging is a fast-growing field that offers plenty of freelance opportunities. However, beware of what type of blogging you're doing and how much the client is paying you. Many new freelance bloggers find themselves putting in full-time hours for part-time pay.

Even if you're just starting out, don't accept less than $7-$10 per post. Just because you haven't blogged before doesn't mean you lack valuable, sought-after skills.

If you do have experience, or if you're blogging for a financially-stable company, feel free to charge more. Top bloggers can earn $30-$50 per post and sometimes a share in the company's profits.

What exactly do bloggers do?

On the surface, it's just article writing. The purposes behind blogging are much more elaborate. Companies use blogs with excellent headlines/keywords to drive traffic to their websites. More web traffic means:

1. More customers to buy their products or services.

2. More people to click on their advertising.

It may seem basic, but these two goals mean you need to create posts that aim and appeal to your clients' target markets. The best bloggers are writers who can write newsworthy content that generates a loyal readership and seamlessly (and sneakily!) promotes the company in question.

Who offers freelance blogging jobs?

A few years ago it was difficult to find people to pay you to blog. These days you can find dozens of new ads for bloggers posted each day. Realtors, auto mechanics, health food stores, doctors, door-to-door salesmen… sometimes it can seem like everyone wants a blog of their own.

Freelance blogging jobs are plentiful, no matter the time of year. Check out WritingBids, Online-Writing-Jobs, Elance, Guru, and IFreelance (or just search for "freelance blogging jobs") to find thousands of blogging jobs available to you.

The bad news is that you'll have to sift through the blogging jobs to find quality jobs. Don't accept jobs that pay $1 per post. Don't accept jobs that expect you to write 10 blogs every day, either -- somehow these people want to pay you next to nothing because of the volume of work (why would you get paid less to do more?). They also comment in their ad that they only want "serious, professional writers." Bidding on blogging jobs like these only sends the message that you are neither serious nor professional because if you were, there's no way you'd consider a job like that.

Do I need experience to be a blogger?

If you want clients to pay you as a legitimate blogger, then yes, you need experience. Luckily, it's not hard to get. You can rack up a few of the lower-paying jobs quickly or consider starting your own blog.

If you do start your own blog, make it full of posts that would impress a prospective client (i.e. no posts for your friends about how killer that last party was). If you post boring content with grammar mistakes, no one will want to hire you. Do your best to create content that drives traffic to your site; this way, you can show clients how good you are at writing what people want to read.

What's the best way to respond to an ad?

Let's say you come across an ad that says this:

I am a successful travel agent looking for a blog writer. I need someone with experience to write interesting posts that pertain to my business -- you can choose specific topics yourself. I need one post a day.

To craft the best response possible, follow these 4 steps:

1. Briefly introduce yourself as experienced and interested.

2. Explain how your posts will drive traffic to their site.

3. Suggest a couple of topics to show you're in sync with the client.

4. Include links to your best blog posts.

Using the ad above as an example, you'd want to:

1. Introduce yourself and express interest in the project and the travel industry in general.

2. Say something like: "I will tailor my posts with specific keywords to make you more visible to potential customers."

3. Suggest topics such as "What to pack for Alaska" or "3 Unique Things To Do In Barbados."

4. Include links to your best existing posts, especially any posts related to travel.

You'll have your first (well-paying) client before you know it. Happy blogging!

Memelihara ikan di akuarium terkadang menjadi hal yang sangat menyebalkan. Hal ini biasanya terjadi saat harus repot membersihkan akuarium. Ikuti beberapa tips di bawah ini untuk mempermudah pekerjaan Anda.

Pastikan ikan-ikan kesayangan Anda sudah dipindahkan sebelum memulai proses pembersihan. Anda bisa menaruhnya di ember atau akuarium lainnya. Saat membersihkan akuarium jangan gunakan cairan pembersih apapun karena biasanya memiliki kandungan bahan kimia yang tidak sehat bagi ikan.

Setelah mengosongkan air, membersihkan filter akuarium adalah hal yang utama. Anda perlu membersihkannya secara menyeluruh. Pastikan tidak ada kotoran yang menyumbat tempat mengalirnya air. Jika perlu gantilah penyaring ini dua minggu sekali.
